The South: Same Country, Different World - Might Could

Every place a language is spoken has its own peculiarities of slang and accent. For example, there’s the Northern City Shift as found in our beloved Buffalo, NY. One phrase we’ve unexpectedly encountered so far? Might could. As in:

Hey, could you hand me the syrup for my waffles?

I might could do that for you

or:

Would you mind turning down your Lil Jon?

You might could shut up


Forget “y’all”—we’ve heard already heard this used more than any other stereotypical Southern-isms. We might could hardly believe it.
